Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men.
As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home seventeen-year-old Fable has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.
But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him and Fable soon finds that West isn't who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they're going to stay alive.

Review & Reaction:
"That was one of Saint's rules. Nothing is free. He wasn't just talking about food or passage or the clothes on your back. He was talking about respect. Safety. Protection. They were things no one owed. And one way or another, you always paid.”
Ya'll Fable really surprised me and I mean this in the BEST WAY possible. I’ll admit that this was one of those books that I auto-bought because of the cover (I mean look at how gorgeous it is!) so I was even more delighted that I ended up enjoying it so much.
This beautiful adventure about a girl who treks through harsh land & sea in search of the father that abandoned her after her mothers death.
Adrienne’s writing style is magical--seriously, her writing flows so nicely. I was pulled into this story immediately. The word building was great and even though I found myself having to google a lot of the maritime terminology cause I know NOTHING about boats or fishing LOL, I was able to vividly picture everything, especially Fable’s dives into the deep blue.
Side note: I'm terrified of open water 😂 but Fable made me want to embrace the sea and learn how to swim so I can see the beauty of it as she does.
I loved Fable’s character. She is a fighter! She’s smart, strong and incredibly courageous. I felt a deep sadness over the things that she had to live through to survive, but also liked that the unfortunate moments were not overshadowed by her determination to make it past them. Every part of Fable’s story where I personally would have given up, she pushes through. I was so inspired by her ability to do what was necessary while still maintaining her dignity.
The mystery & complexity surrounding the other characters made this book hard to put down. Talk about a page turner! The romance between the two MCs was a very slow burn that I found complicated but beautiful ♥ . When it finally happened I was like
but also
I will say I wasn’t 100% convinced of the sincerity of one of their feelings for one another (I’m hoping my thought on this changes in book 2!). The cliff hanger at the end had me
Adrienne Young is a wonderful storyteller and I cannot wait to read the next and final book in this duology when it’s released in March 2021!
“Like light cast over the morning water, it became new. Every moment that lay ahead, like an uncharted sea. This was a new beginning”
🔹Would I recommend it? ABSOLUTELY!
