Blurb:
In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out evil before it destroys her world.

Review & Reaction:
“No matter what happens,” she said quietly, “I want to thank you.” Chaol tilted his head to the side. “For what? ”Her eyes stung, but she blamed it on the fierce wind and blinked away the dampness. “For making my freedom mean something ”
I know I’m probably super late to the TOG club but better late than never right? 😂 This was a great start to this series.
The story follows notorious assassin, Celaena Sardothien, who is serving a life sentence in the Salt Mines of Endovier when she is offered the opportunity of a lifetime: compete in a deadly tournament and represent the Prince of Adarlan to become the King’s Assassin in exchange for her freedom. When the competitors become victims of a gruesome death, Celaena sets out to find the culprit before she becomes a victim herself.
The story was well-paced, had great world building and the characters were well-developed. I have to commend Maas ability to shift perspectives so effortlessly. It is not often that character POVs change within chapters and she did so, so well that I never felt lost. I loved that I felt very connected to the three main characters.
I REALLY like Celaena’s character. She is a badass with a darkness inside her that we only get a glimpse of but has a ginormous heart and wits about her.
The relationships she had with her potential love interests was so interesting. Maas does such a great job at shining a light on both of those characters that I couldn’t decide whom I was rooting more for.
I kept going back & forth but by the end I was leaning towards one of them 😉 . However individually, I loved them both. I thoroughly enjoyed every scene that all three of them were in together. They were a dynamic, fun trio.
Though there is a smidge of a love story, I’m glad that what little of it there was didn’t take away from the story's main focus: who or what was murdering the champions. Despite the plot being a bit predictable, and there not being as many action-packed scenes as I expected there to be, I found myself unable to put the book down. I cannot wait to dive into the next one!
What did you think of Throne of Glass?
Would I recommend: YES Re-read it?: Probably! Read the next book in the series?: ABSOLUTELY
